Esteemed Honorary Fellow

An Esteemed Honorary Fellow is a person of importance in their profession who has retired. This title is given in recognition of the service and dedication to research they have given to MCRI. It is expected that this person may continue to contribute to our research in a scientific and/or clinical mentoring role and via assisting with grant writing or publications post their retirement from paid employment. This person does not perform work which would create an employment relationship.

 

Honorary Fellow (Manager or Group Leader)

An Honorary Fellow (Manager or Group Leader) contributes to the research or general betterment of MCRI. These individuals are not provided with remuneration for their services.
Such positions are made available to persons not normally employed by us but whom it is considered advantageous to have involved in research activities and desirable for the person concerned to have a formal association with us recognised. They will actively contribute to achieving our goals and will submit competitive grants with MCRI as the administering institution and affiliate to MCRI on all publications.
The Honorary Fellow (Manager or Group Leader) will be responsible for the day to day supervision of our staff and students and may also be responsible for managing expenditure of our controlled funds.

 

Honorary Fellows

Honorary Fellows will have a PhD.
Researchers not meeting the criteria for an Honorary Fellow but who will nevertheless make
a significant contribution to the research goals and life of the Institute may be classified as a
Research Associate – see below

 

Research Associate

A Research Associate is a classified someone who is employed by another organisation with
which we have close relations. They do not supervise students or staff and cannot make
applications to the Space Management Committee or for internal funding or other resource
support. Research Associates may submit competitive grants with us as the administering
institution and affiliate to MCRI on publications. It is expected they will actively contribute to
MCRI's goals. The status of a research associate does not confer any of the rights or
entitlements of a paid staff member status.

 

Clinical Associate – VCGS

A Clinical Associate – VCGS is a person who contributes to the clinical activities of the
VCGS. These individuals are not provided with remuneration for their services and do not
supervise VCGS staff and students.
The purpose of the Clinical Associate engagement is to allow access to Genetic Health data
for the purpose of a specific research project. It is expected they will actively contribute to
achieving the goals of VCGS. Such positions are made available to those of an organisation
with which VCGS has close relations.

 

Volunteer

A Volunteer is an individual who performs work or provides services without financial gain or
remuneration for a designated period of time to allow them to gain experience in specific
endeavours. A volunteer donates time and talent to primarily benefit us. A volunteer is not a
substitute for paid work and does not replace a paid staff member nor does it constitute a
threat to the job security of a paid staff.

 

Visiting Researcher

A Visiting Researcher are professional academics from overseas. They have a significant
record of achievement in their field and they have been invited and sponsored by us to come
to Australia to collaborate with other researchers on their research projects. It is expected
that there will be an enriching exchange of research knowledge, ideas and skills between the Institute and their home organisation.
Visiting Researchers may be with us for a temporary stay without remuneration. This placement is not intended for researchers receiving remuneration e.g., a fellowship, salary, stipend, grant, scholarship, award or allowance (other than towards living expenses) from us. A Visiting Researcher engagement is as per the duration of the valid visa and will affiliate to MCRI on all publications.

 

Occupational Trainee

An Occupational Trainee is a person from a country other than Australia undertaking a supervised workplace-based training program that is designed specifically to increase their skill level in their occupation or area of expertise. At least 70% of the training will be workplace based and should clearly relate to their current occupation; be designed to enhance their skill level and so that the skills obtained will be readily useable in their home country; be consistent with their employment history; and not adversely affect occupational or training opportunities for Australian citizens or permanent residents.
An Occupational Trainee, must be provided with a structured workplace training program to promote capacity building overseas. Length of engagement is up to 2 years though may vary according to the rules and regulation determined by the Department of Immigration and Boarder Protection. The Occupational Trainee will affiliate to MCRI on all publications.
